How it works, and what to do when it doesn't

Most questions are one of these. If yours is not, write to us.

For hosts

Creating an event

Go to zieby.com/onboarding. Pick what you are celebrating, the look, the date and a name — two minutes. At the end you get a QR code and six letters. Write the letters down: they are how you sign in to the app, and they are shown once.

Getting the app

The Zieby app for iPhone is on its way to the App Store. Open it, type your six letters, and your event is on your phone. The same letters work on a second phone, or after reinstalling.

The QR code

Print it and put it where people will see it — on the tables, at the bar, by the door. It is also in the app under "Show the QR code", so you can hold your phone up for someone. One code, every guest.

Watching the photos come in

The app shows every photo as it lands, sorted by guest. Only you can see them until you reveal. If nothing seems to arrive, pull down to refresh; the app also checks by itself every twenty seconds while it is open.

The reveal

Swipe to reveal the memories. Every guest sees the album at the same moment, and the cameras close: nothing new can be added after that. Changed your mind? "Hide them again" in the menu takes it back, for fifteen minutes.

Removing a photo or a guest

Open a photo and hide it (reversible) or delete it (an hour to change your mind). "Who's shooting" lists every guest; removing one takes their photos out of the album with them.

Downloading

"Download every photo" in the app gives you a ZIP of the whole album, with the original camera files if you want them. Do it before the album expires.

How long the memories stay

Three months, counted from the event date or from the reveal if that is later. You get a warning and thirty more days before anything is removed.

For guests

Scanning the code

On an iPhone, point the Camera app at the QR code. Zieby opens by itself — nothing to download, no account. Type your name and you have a camera with 24 shots.

Android, or any other phone

Scan the code with any QR scanner, or open the link. The camera opens in the browser — the same looks, the same stamp, the same 24 shots, into the same album. Allow the camera when the browser asks; if it does not ask, the shutter button opens your phone's own camera instead.

Shooting

The look the host chose is already in the viewfinder, so you see what you shoot. You have 24 shots; the counter shows what is left. Photos upload in the background, so keep the camera open a moment after your last one if the signal is bad.

Seeing the photos

Not until the host reveals them. Then scan the code again, or open the link the host sends — everyone's photos, all at once.

A photo of you that you would rather not have there

Open the photo and tap "this is me". The host is told, and if they do nothing for seven days the photo is hidden by itself.

When something does not work

The code opens a web page instead of the app
That web page is the camera too — tap "Grab your camera". On an iPhone, scanning the printed code with the Camera app itself (rather than a QR app) opens the Zieby app instead.
"This camera is closed"
The host has revealed the memories. Nothing can be added after that.
"This camera is full"
You have used your 24 shots. That is the point of a disposable camera.
"The host has removed you from this event"
The host took you out. Ask them.
My photos say "sending" for a long time
Bad signal, usually in a marquee or a basement. Keep the camera open; it keeps trying by itself, with longer pauses, until they land. Closing the app pauses that.
The six letters are not accepted
They are letters only, never digits, and there is no I or O in them. After ten wrong tries the door closes for an hour.
I lost the six letters
