What we keep, and for how long
Zieby stores photos for a few months so the people at an event can share them once. It stores as little else as it can get away with. This page says exactly what, in plain words.
LAST UPDATED 4 SEPTEMBER 2026
Who is responsible
Zieby is made by United Sum B.V., registered in the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce 98236733). For anything about your data, write to hello@zieby.com.
What we store, and why
If you create an event (the host)
- The event: its name, type, date, time zone and the look you chose. The name and date are printed into every photo — that is the point of them.
- Your email address, if you gave one, so we can reach you about your event. We do not send newsletters from it.
- A sign-in code and keys for the app, stored as hashes. We cannot read them back; nobody can.
- A hashed version of your IP address when you create an event, so that one machine cannot create thousands. The hash is salted with a value that changes daily, which makes it useless for anything else after a day.
If you shoot at an event (a guest)
- The name you type, shown to the host and, once the memories are revealed, to the other guests.
- An anonymous device identifier, made by your phone, so that scanning the code twice gives you your own camera back rather than a fresh one.
- The photos you take. For each one we keep the styled version, a thumbnail, and the original file as your camera made it.
- A hashed IP address, as above.
What we deliberately do not store
- Location. Zieby never asks your phone for it, and it strips location data from any photo before serving it to anyone.
- Contacts, calendars, or anything else on your phone.
- Analytics or advertising trackers. There are none on this site or in the app. The only third-party script on the site is Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that the event form is not being filled in by a robot.
Who can see the photos
- Before the reveal: only the host.
- After the reveal: everyone who was at the event and anyone the host sends the link to. A revealed album is meant to be shared — if that is not what you want, do not reveal it, or take the reveal back within fifteen minutes.
- Originals (the untouched camera files) are only ever shown to the host.
Photo links are signed and expire; they cannot be guessed. Nobody at Zieby looks at your photos unless you ask us to, or a photo is reported.
How long
Memories are kept for three months — counted from the event date, or from the reveal if that comes later. Before anything is removed, the album is marked and given thirty more days. Then the photos are deleted, including the originals and the thumbnails.
Keeping the album for a year is something we will offer; until then, three months is what everybody gets.
Your rights
- See what we hold: a host can download the whole album at any time. A guest can ask us for their photos.
- Have a photo of you removed: every photo carries a "this is me, take it down" button. The host is told; if they do not act within seven days, the photo is hidden automatically.
- Have everything about you removed: write to hello@zieby.com. A host can also delete their own event.
- Complain: you can always go to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Where it lives
Photos and data are stored with Cloudflare, which acts as our processor. Cloudflare's own privacy terms apply to how they run their infrastructure.
Cookies
The site sets no tracking cookies. It remembers the event you were creating in your browser's own storage, so a page refresh does not lose your work. Cloudflare Turnstile may set a cookie of its own to do its job.
Children
Zieby is not aimed at children under 16. Hosts are responsible for who they hand a camera to.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it.
